The C\u00f4te-des-Neiges-based housing\u00a0advocacy organization noticed that the rental board&rsquo;s hearing wait times for tenants with non-emergency problems is suspiciously much\u00a0longer than for landlords complaining about non-payment of rent. \u00ab\u00a0The delay for general complaints is 15 months for the first hearing,\u00a0\u00bb says\u00a0Project Genesis&rsquo;s Sheetal Pathak. \u00ab\u00a0But for non-payment of rent, it&rsquo;s four to six weeks.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>To draw attention to what she calls the arbitrary and\u00a0random nature of getting hearings, her organization is holding amock urban ice-fishing event today, Thursday, Jan. 26, where \u00ab\u00a0tenants fish\u00a0for hearing dates,\u00a0\u00bb she says. Pathak says the R\u00e9gie divides complaints into four categories: urgent, priority, general and nonpayment.\u00a0Project Genesis will be using the stunt to present their demands: that all cases are heard within three months on a first come-first-served\u00a0basis, and that urgent cases are heard within 72 hours.
