Are you motivated by social justice movements? Do you want to work in solidarity with Côte-des-Neiges community members to organize popular actions for housing justice and against poverty? Project Genesis, a community organization with almost 50 years of anti-poverty and housing rights activism, is seeking a Community Organiser under the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

Only candidates 30 years and under can be considered.

The contract is for 30 hours/week during the summer. The pay is $19/hour.

Project Genesis’ Community Organizing brings together neighbourhood residents to take collective action to defend their social and economic rights. After training and under supervision, the community organisers hired for this position may work on updating and leading a social housing workshop, supporting a residents’ committee to participate in national campaigns for social and economic rights, participating in door to door outreach in the neighbourhood, visiting elderly and mobility challenged residents in their homes to help with paperwork, research, update or create public education materials.

Requirements

  • bilingual (French and English), other languages an asset;
  • an interest in social justice issues;
  • ability to work independently and with a team;
  • community sector organising or activism experience an asset.
